Friends of Long Beach Firefighters, commonly referred to in short as “Friends” is an organization that was established in 2009. Established as a non-profit and non-partisan volunteer group, Friends of Long Beach Firefighters was created to support the on-going training and service programs of the Long Beach Fire Department. As a community services organization that operates under the direction of the Long Beach Fire Department, the Board of Directors is comprised of current and retired Fire Department personnel that meet regularly to maintain oversight of the organization in support its mission.
Focused on community service, education and engagement, Friends oversees several different programs to include; the Fire Ambassadors, Long Beach CERT, LBFD Kids, Junior Lifeguards and Spark of Love, and other programs as determined by the Board of Directors. Each of these programs have a unique mission in support of community engagement and outreach. As an organization we are proud of these programs and the contributions that they make throughout the year. Ranging from conducting fire safety presentations to all 3rd graders in the Long Beach Unified School District, to training future lifeguards through our Junior Lifeguard program, and building community resiliency and preparedness through our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, our organization reaches all segments of our community. Volunteers drive the programs and are a critical element to our ongoing and continued success.
As a non-profit organization with deep ties to the community, Friends is also proud to support and promote other organizations and events throughout the year. In keeping with this mission, we support, through charitable giving, organizations that request assistance, support, and funding to promote goodwill. We continually strengthen communication between the community and the Fire Department and conduct fundraising events to support the activities of our programs. Our goal is to raise the public’s awareness of these services in support of the Fire Department. Any organization wishing to receive support from Friends should complete a request form through this site and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
